Encarsia Formosa is a parasite of the greenhouse whitefly, a pest that is typically found on plants that stay fairly close to the ground. Encarsia Formosa are actually tiny wasps, and are completely harmless to people and pets. They only attack immature whiteflies, which are called scale. The Encarsia Formosa lay their eggs inside the scale of the whitefly; they hatch, feed, and mature, and in the process kill the scale, turning it black. The whole process takes about 20-25 days. As adults, they immediately begin mating and parasitizing more scale. The life span of an adult Encarsia Formosa is 10 days. Since the entire life cycle of the Encarsia Formosa is 30 days, the most effective results are obtained when 3 releases are made at 1 week intervals; this way, the offspring of the first batch released will be mature by the time the adults from the last release are dying. The Encarsia come already parasitized in whitefly scale on a card, and should hatch within 2-10 days of recieving them. At least 60 Encarsia are on each card. Release 1 Encarsia per square foot of a planted area, or 1-3 per plant, whichever's higher. They should be released as soon as possible, and preferably when it's sunny and warm. Cards should be hung on branches of plants in areas where the whiteflies are present. If you should need to release the delay of the Encarsia, they should be stored out of sunlight between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If the whitefly population is high already, treat infested area with insecticidal soap before releasing the Encarsia. Be aware that beneficial insects only ship from our warehouse on Mondays and Tuesdays, and will only be shipped seven business days after the order is processed. Shipments usually take about three days to arrive to their destination.

Delphastus Pusillus
Delphastus Pusillus
List Price: $31.00
Our Price: $21.00
Delphastus is a very small, shiny, black beetle that feeds on the eggs and larvae (but not adults) of several species of whitefly. When whitefly are not available, they will also eat spider mites. The female will lay about 200 eggs during her lifetime of around 60 days. After the eggs hatch, the larvae will consume 100 to 200 whitefly eggs a day. After 2-3 weeks, they form a cocoon and emerge as adults 6 days later. Adult delphastus will consume several hundred whitefly eggs and larvae a day. Adults can tolerate temperatures from 45 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. They should be released in the evening, when it's cool. If release is delayed, store your delphastus in a cool place, but do NOT refrigerate. Average coverage is 1 Delphastus per 10 to 25 square feet of planted area. 25 beetles should cover about 250 to 500 square feet. Delphastus work well with other whitefly predators and parasites; you can use them in conjuction with each other. Be aware that beneficial insects only ship from our warehouse on Mondays and Tuesdays, and will only be shipped seven business days after the order is processed. Shipments usually take about three days to arrive to their destination.
