How Children React To Tick Bites

Posted by Jennifer Smith on 14th May 2018

Everyone responds differently to tick bites; and the list of Lyme Disease symptoms is not set in stone - especially for children. In fact, the first sign of tick bites in children is a rash; but not necessarily the traditional 'Bulls-eye' marking.

To stop the itching, swelling and redness associated with the bite, give your child over-the-counter medicine such as Benadryl or Claritin. Check with a doctor prior to giving children anantihistamine.

Removing the tick from kids is the same process as on an adult. Do not use petroleum jelly or nail polish remover on the skin. Do not burn the skin. And, most importantly, don't freak out! Not all ticks carry Lyme Disease; but removing the tick as soon as possible is vital.

Be aware of the symptoms of Lyme Disease; and know how to properly remove a tick. #LymeDiseaseAwarenessMonth #LymeDisease
