It's National Volunteer Week!

Posted by Jennifer Smith on 16th Apr 2018

National Volunteer Week encourages pet owners to spend time at No-Kill animal shelters or rescues. Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).  This number can be reduced if pet owners can advocate for the fair treatment of animals and encourage others to adopt animals from shelters.

Dog owners can start dog foster care programs in their own homes to take care of dogs that are in-need of forever homes. Volunteering your time will give dogs love, attention, care and hope. Dog owners will need outdoor dog enclosures, food, and plenty of toys to get started.

Cat owners are encouraged to start TNR Programs in their community to reduce the rate of homeless cats being brought into shelters. Feral Cats have never been with families - they were born homeless and live homeless. They have never had medical care. With Feral Cat Assistance Programs, cats get off the streets and can receive medical care while being spayed or neutered. This lowers the amount of more homeless cats on the streets and gives them a chance to find forever homes. Cat owners will need outdoor cat enclosures, food, and plenty of toys to get started.

This Pet Volunteer Week, donate your time to pets in-need.
