Tick Movement In Winter

29th Nov 2019

Outdoor enthusiasts may be under the impression that once the temperatures drop, and snow is on the ground, that ticks must be a thing of the past - unfortunately, they are mistaken.

As long as temperatures stay above freezing at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, ticks will remain a concern. In the fall and winter seasons, ticks will be found in grassy and wooded areas and underneath leaves and tree logs for shelter and insulation. It is advised that homeowners move firewood and leaf piles away from homes to prevent ticks from crawling inside homes - potentially attacking people and pets.

Deer are the number one carriers of ticks with Lyme Disease in the United States; and it is suggested by wildlife experts to install deer fencing around yards to keep away whitetails for tick management. When outside, carry a tick remover tool for ease of tick removal, too.
